Text case file (.TXT) format

Structure of text format case files...

The Open Case Document command recognizes tables that have been stored in MS Excel™ compatible text format, for example by saving an MS Excel™ worksheet as text. No event data can be stored in this format. When Wintrack recognizes such a table it expects path data to be organized in either of the following ways:

 t x y t x y
t1 x1 y1 t1 x1 y1
t2 x2 y2 t2 x2 y2
t3 x3 y3 t3 x3 y3
t4 x4 y4 t4 x4 y4
t5 x5 y5 t5 x5 y5
t6 x6 y6 t6 x6 y6
t7 x7 y7
t8 x8 y8
t9 x9 y9
or
 x y x y
x1 y1 x1 y1
x2 y2 x2 y2
x3 y3 x3 y3
x4 y4 x4 y4
x5 y5 x5 y5
x6 y6 x6 y6
x7 y7
x8 y8
x9 y9

Each trial may be represented by three columns of data, with one containing time stamps and the following two the corresponding x- and y- coordinate values. Note that Wintrack requires all trials to start at 0s. The time stamps of an imported file will be transformed appropriately if they do not meet this requirement. If more than one trial is to be represented in a table, place the column groups next to each other, without empty columns in between them. The trials do not need to have the same length. Except for the optional column headers, all cells in the table should either contain numbers or be empty!

As an alternative, each trial may be represented by two columns of data containing x- and y- coordinate values. This format assumes that data has been recorded at a constant sampling interval. If more than one trial is to be represented in a table, just place the column pairs next to each other, without empty columns in between them. The trials do not need to have the same length. Except for the optional column headers, all cells in the table should either contain numbers or be completely empty!

Reading text data...

The Open Case Document command recognizes text files automatically. Before importing a text file, Wintrack prompts for specification of a sampling interval: enter 0 if the file contains time stamps or enter the appropriate sampling interval if the file merely contains x- and y-coordinate values. Text files contain no case properties information. Therefore, Wintrack automatically activates the Case Properties command after loading a text file so you can specify properties manually.

Writing text data...

The Wintrack Save Case Document As command saves data in MS Excel™ compatible text format if you select text as file format. The resulting table will include time stamps and thus have three columns per trial. Since text files cannot store case properties, the case properties will be lost if you save the document in text format.
