Acquire Trial dialog

How to fill in the dialog box fields...

Fill in the dialog box fields as indicated below. You may also accept presented default values and options. Disregard grayed fields and options. When done, press Ok to continue. Or press Cancel to abort.

source
Use this radio button field to select a source device for the data acquisition:

  • keyboard = capture event data via the keyboard,
  • mouse = capture event data via the keyboard and path data by dragging the mouse,
  • file = import Imétronic Freezing™ keyboard data that has previously been recorded using the MICE utility developed by Alexei Vyssotski..

target trial
Use this number field to indicate the number of the destination trial. Wintrack attempts to present a default intending a sequential ascending fill order of trials.

maximal duration [s]
Use this number field to indicate the maximal duration of the recording. In combination with sampling interval, this setting determines the number of data points acquired.

sampling interval [s]
If acquiring data with the mouse, use this number field to indicate the sampling interval at which data is to be acquired and later stored. If acquiring data using the keyboard only, you have three options:

  • specify 0 and each keystroke will generate a data point whose time stamp marks the end of the stroke,
  • specify a positive sampling interval and Wintrack will generate data points at a regular sampling interval and insert them during and between keystrokes to increase temporal resolution,
  • specify a negative sampling interval and Wintrack will generate data points at a regular sampling interval and map each keystroke to the nearest data point.

You should use the latter option when adding events to a trial that already contains path data that was sampled at a regular interval. If you plan to analyze time windows within the data, make sure to set the (positive or negative) sampling interval in such a way that a data point is available at each planned window border. Similarly, a data point should be available at each line break if you use a custom setup file which replaces paths by timelines to display the recorded events.

smoothing frame [s]
If acquiring data with the mouse, use this number field to indicate the smoothing frame used for smoothing of the acquired raw data. Enter 0 to skip smoothing.

goal position
If acquiring data with the mouse, use this name field to indicate the position code of the goal for the trial to be recorded. Valid codes are listed next to the field: NE Northeast, NW Northwest, SE Southeast, SW Southwest, CT center, NO no goal, BAnn = Barnes maze hole number (nn ranging from 01 to 40). Barnes maze holes are allowed only if the arena has been defined as Barnes maze type.

release point
If acquiring data with the mouse, use this name field to indicate the position of the release point for the trial to be recorded. Valid codes are listed next to the field: E East, NE Northeast, N North, NW Northwest, W West, SW Southwest, S South, SE Southeast, CT center.

text for trial title
Use this name field to specify the text for the trial title. {date} will be substituted by the current date, {time} by the current time.

source file
Use this file field to specify the name and location of the MICE file from which to import Imétronic Freezing™ keyboard data.
